Patience and
perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and
obstacles vanish. ~John Quincy Adams
We are all
trying to be patient with the weather. I
just returned from a wonderful reading conference in New Jersey, where the sun
was shining, the grass was green and the cherry blossom trees were bursting
with flowers. I am putting a picture
below to give you hope and let you know it will get better in the weather
department.
Students in
second grade have been busy writing. They
tied their writing into the old saying “April showers bring May flowers.” Some of their writing is hanging in the
hallway around the second grade classrooms.
Here are a couple of pictures.
Fifth grade
students have been working on a poetry unit in English class. One of the poems they have recently studied
is Walt Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing.”
To assess understanding of this poem, students were asked to write new
verses related to current jobs in America.
They were also challenged to use alliteration in their verses. Below you can read the original poem and see
a few of the student verses. All of the
student verses are posted on the bulletin board across from Mrs. Grabanski’s
classroom.
Fourth grade
students got ready for their MCA tests last week by eating breakfast together
in the morning. It was a good time for
bonding and to make sure the students had a good breakfast before their
tests. The MCA Reading tests are
complete. MCA Math tests will take place
next week in the Lower School. Your
child’s teacher will communicate the exact date and time, as these tests will
be online and we are unable to give them all at the same time.
